The Golden Bloggerz Award

Bill from A Silly Place has nominated me for the Golden Bloggerz Award, created by Chris from Golden Bloggerz to motivate and reward all these amazing bloggers that work daily to serve their audience and they worth more recognition. Their priority is to do their best to help their readers solve their problems and reach their goals. He actually nominated me a couple of months ago but the ‘teach’ part of Live, Parent, Teach, Repeat has been getting in the way of writing this reply. Bloody kids needing educated! Anyhow, I’ve finally found a few minutes to answer his questions between planning lessons, washing school uniforms and dragging middle child kicking and screaming downstairs to revise for his mock GCSEs.

Thanks for thinking of me!

So three things about me.

I was meant to be called Hilary. Well, by my mother at least. My dad had other ideas and dashed to the registrar whilst my mam was otherwise incapacitated having just given birth. I used to be thankful for my dad’s daring decision, but, after 46 years of people spelling my name any other way but Lindsay, I’m not so sure anymore.

I have a recurring nightmare about my university dissertation. I’ve left it too late, I’ve forgotten to hand it in, I can’t remember what the subject is. And I’m baffled by it. I handed it in on time and I still remember to this day what the question was. Maybe it’s my subconscious telling me that I was once in my life organised enough to write something at length!

I’ve always liked the underdog. Everyone supported Liverpool; I chose Everton. Girls swooned over Morten Harket; I preferred Mags. Friends had posters of Patrick Swayze; I watched repeats of some guy off Home and Away. I wasn’t one for being part of the crowd and I certainly never followed it either.

I doubt I’ll ever fly again. The 11 year old thought nothing of travelling alone to Switzerland with a couple of lemon sherbets in my bag in case my ears hurt on descent. The 46 year old me needs alcohol before and during the flight and is a complete mess until I’m back on terra firma. And there is absolutely no reason for this new found fear.

Oh that’s four things! Well, the fifth thing would be that I was never very good at Maths!

So here’s the answers to Bill’s questions.

1. What is your favorite quotation, and why?

“Don’t take any shit from anybody.” Not very eloquent but how Billy Joel traditionally ended his concerts. Simple, to the point and easy to remember. Sometimes a bit harder to live by as I do try to always see the good in people. However, last year, someone promised me things, backtracked, promised me a little less and I just decided to follow Billy’s advice. Everything worked out for the better.

2. Your house is burning down. You, your loved ones and your pets will all get out safely, but you can only take one thing with you. What is it?

I probably should say photo albums but they’re all up there in some cloud in the sky. I think. Probably my ‘bobo’. It’s the last remaining piece of my baby blanket which still travels the world with me. It still has the same feel and smell. And on picking it up, I can instantly travel back in time to my happy childhood. Although I probably shouldn’t start sucking my thumb like I did back then!

3. What is something (or someone) you hate, even though you know it’s completely irrational?

Car washes. I now know it’s the brushes which are moving. I know they can’t get in the car. But I still refuse to take my car to one. Give me spiders any day.

4. In 25 words or less, what is your process for writing blog posts?

I get an idea at a random time, grab something to write on and pour out whatever is in my head until it is empty.

5. What is the last thing you regretted doing?

Not getting the living room finished before the end of lockdown. I mean, I only had 6 months but it probably could have been done. At a pinch! Then finally managing to start it again just as lockdown 2.0 was announced!

And now my questions:

1) When is the last time you experienced nostalgia?

2) What’s the scariest dream you’ve ever had?

3) Which animal would you like to be reincarnated as?

4) Do you believe in aliens?

5) What really gets on your nerves?

Here’s my nominees. Apologies if you’ve already been nominated. But congratulations if you already have!

And a couple of links (remember I can’t count!) to blog posts I’ve enjoyed writing.

Dear Boris I was appealing to Mr Johnson’s better nature and asking for a circuit breaker. He didn’t listen. Apparently he regrets it now!

  1. Thanks for the nomination, Lindsay! I actually finished my dissertation on the train to Manchester going to hand it in… I still remember refusing to budge out of someone’s reserved seat as I wouldn’t have got it finished otherwise 😳
